Orthodox Community

Support specifically for the Orthodox community.

Lev Detroit offers comprehensive, accessible services to members of Metro Detroit’s Orthodox communities. As an initiative of Jewish Family Service, individuals and families have access to the depth and breadth of JFS services.

Lev Detroit provides confidential and culturally sensitive services to approximately 400 Orthodox families per year. We have both frum and culturally knowledgeable staff who provide guidance and compassion to help you access resources within JFS and in the broader community, including counseling, financial assistance, older adult support, school-based services and more.

Our Services

Lev Detroit is here for you and your family in many helpful ways. Please contact us to get started — even if you don’t see what you need.

Safety Kid Program

This comprehensive child sexual abuse prevention program for school staff, parents and children is designed specifically for the Orthodox community and uses culturally sensitive tools. Lev Detroit has partnered with Safety Kid creator Debbie Fox to provide this programming.

School Social Workers

JFS social workers are based in community schools to work with students, parents, teachers and administrators to grow the social-emotional culture within each school. Schools served by this program include Beis Chaya Mushka High School, Farber Hebrew Day School, The Lubavitch Cheder, Yeshiva Beth Yehudah and Yeshivas Darchei Torah.

Welcome Baskets

We welcome new families into our community! Welcome baskets are our way of welcoming you to the area. They include information tailored to the community’s local services, including lists of shuls and rabbis, coupons to local small businesses and a nice gift! To receive a welcome basket or to alert us of a new neighbor, fill out the form below.

Seasonal Support

In addition to year-round services, Lev Detroit provides assistance for seasonal occasions.

Backpacks

With the generous support of the National Council of Jewish Women, we’re able to provide backpacks filled with school supplies for the coming school year.

Pesach Assistance

Yomim Tovim preparations can add financial strain to those already struggling to make ends meet. Lev Detroit can provide food gift cards to help qualifying families prepare for Pesach.

School Uniforms

Uniforms are an important but expensive part of children’s schooling. To ensure all students feel confident attending school, Lev Detroit has partnered with Fit For a Kid to offer confidential financial assistance to qualifying families.
